The Walton Avenue School is an
International Baccalaureate World School

The Walton Avenue School - PS 294 is an International Baccalaureate (IB) School. We are implementing the Primary Years Programme. IB World Schools share a common philosophy—a commitment to improve the teaching and learning of a diverse and inclusive community of students by delivering challenging, high quality programmes of international education that share a powerful vision. Only schools authorized by the International Baccalaureate can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme or the IB Career-related Certificate (IBCC). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted. For further information about the IB and its programmes, visit www.ibo.org

What is the IB?

The International Baccalaureate® aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.

What is the IB PYP Program?

The IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) for children aged 3 - 12 nurtures and develops young students as caring, active participants in a lifelong journey of learning.

Through its inquiry-led, transdisciplinary framework, the PYP challenges students to think for themselves and take responsibility for their learning as they explore local and global issues and opportunities in real-life contexts.

What does this mean for my child’s education?

Students will be challenged to connect their learning to larger global issues affecting us all.

They will learn skills now, which they will then be able to use well past their college years and on into their careers.

Students who are enrolled in an IB School will receive instruction in a second language. Spanish was chosen based on our school demographics and availability of teachers.

The PYP is a transformative experience for students, teachers and whole school communities. PYP students learn how to take control of their learning,

teachers collaborate to deepen student- learning and increase their confidence and self-motivation. The whole school community, including parents, are viewed as partners in learning, and actively contribute to a holistic educational experience
